Homeless people in Washington, D.C. could face fines or jail time if they refuse to leave encampments amid the Trump administration’s push to federalize law enforcement in the U.S. capital, the White House said Tuesday.
On Tuesday, some of the 800 National Guard members deployed by the administration began arriving in Washington as police and federal officials took the first steps in an uneasy partnership to reduce crime in what U.S.
President Donald Trump called – without substantiation – a lawless city.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the government would re-assess the need for federal enforcement at the end of the 30-day period.
