From Global News.
Wildfires raged across southern Europe, including Greece and Albania. Near the town of Delvina in southern Albania, the fires destroyed important olive groves in the surrounding area on Wednesday.
"What happened to us has never happened before in Delvina. It has been 24 hours since the fire surrounded the entire city and everything was burned down", retired Delvina resident Muco Godo said.
Meanwhile, wildfire near the city of Patras, in western Greece, prompted the evacuation of at least 25 settlements as fires persisted throughout the country.
“It looks like doomsday. We came from Athens with our volunteer association Kleisthenis, we can’t do anything more. May God help us and help the people here, ” Greek volunteer Giorgos Karavanis said.
As wildfires continue to rage, a forestry expert emphasized the need for better preparedness in facing inevitable future fires.
