It only took a few hours: after a fighter jet on a training mission crashed into a school in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, Facebook, Instagram and other social media were flooded with AI visuals pretending to show the incident.
At least 33 people were killed in the crash, most of them children, in the country’s worst plane disaster in decades.
"My heart is pounding," begins the caption of one post.
"How the incident happened," says another.
But comparisons with authentic AFP images of the aftermath of the incident and a closer look at the false posts show that they contain visuals generated by artificial intelligence.
