A wildfire at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim continues to burn

From NPR.

Arizona officials say a wildfire at the Grand Canyon’s North Rim continues to burn and the state’s Gov. Katie Hobbs is calling for an investigation as to how the blaze was handled, as she meets next week with federal officials.

The fire began July 4 as a result of a lighting strike, but the National Park Service allowed it to burn as part of a “confine and contain” strategy that the National Park has used for decades to clear dense vegetation and make the ecosystem more resilient.

The fire had charred nearly 20 square miles of land as of Monday morning. Fire officials said it was only 8% contained.
