Vancouver’s beleaguered Downtown Eastside neighbourhood is facing yet another potential blow as a major retailer considers pulling out of the area.

The president of London Drugs says the company is considering shuttering its location in the Woodward’s Building at the corner of East Hastings Street and Abbott Street when its lease expires in October.

Clint Mahlman says the company hasn’t seen the increased housing density it expected in the area when it agreed to be the anchor tenant for the Woodward’s redevelopment in 2009.

And as Kristen Robinson reports, the company and staff says safety has been a big concern.
