After Surfside collapse, Florida condo assessments hit homeowners hard

Following the deadly collapse of a 12 story condominium in Surfside, FL in 2021, the state passed new rules for buildings’ structural integrity recertification. Inspections have led to multi-million dollar construction projects, the cost of which is hitting condo owners hard and in some cases, leaving them feeling trapped in units they now can’t sell.
