Air India passenger jet bound for London crashes in Ahmedabad after take-off | DW News

Air India passenger flight 171 has crashed near the city of Ahmedabad in western India. Images from the crash site show many burnt buildings and extensive damage. Fire crews and rescue workers are on the scene. Air India authorities as well as police say 242 passengers and members of the crew were on board the aircraft, which was on its way to Gatwick airport, near London. Flight radar data shows signal from the Boeing 787 was lost less than a minute after take-off — at low altitude. There have been no reports yet about the fate of those onboard, or those on the ground – but the images give few signs of hope.
