Australia’s ‘Invasion Day’: Thousands march to support Indigenous rights

From Global News.

Thousands marked Australia’s national day on Sunday, with an ‘Invasion Day’ rally in Sydney to support the country’s Indigenous community.

Other state capitals in Australia saw similar rallies, including Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

“Invasion day — It’s just about the survival of our people, we’re still here. We ain’t going nowhere. Like you know, you can try to assimilate all you want, but we’re still here,” Indigenous Australian Amanda Hill said.

For many Indigenous Australians, who trace their lineage on the continent back 50,000 years and make up about 27 million of the Australian population, the day symbolizes the destruction of their cultures by European settlers.
