At least 19 people were killed and 164 were injured when a Bangladesh air force training jet crashed into a school campus in the capital of Dhaka on Monday.

The F-7 BGI jet was being used in a routine training mission when it experienced a mechanical failure shortly after takeoff, authorities said.

“When I was picking my kids and went to the gate, I realized something came from behind, then I heard an explosion,” said a teacher who witnessed the crash.

“When I looked back, I only saw fire and smoke.”

The pilot was among those killed in the crash. A committee has been set up to investigate the incident, the military says.
