From Global News.
A British Columbia woman has been fined $2,500 in what federal officials call a precedent-setting case after she was caught on video paddleboarding dangerously close to a pod of orcas in Ucluelet Harbour.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans launched an investigation after the video surfaced in 2021, showing the woman paddling near endangered transient killer whales, including two young calves.
Despite her claim that she was unaware of the required 200-metre buffer zone, a judge found her guilty based on witness testimony and video evidence. Christa Dao reports.
