From Global News.
Canada’s Conservative Party leader, Pierre Poilievre, is scheduled to speak in Brampton, Ont., Monday morning as the campaign trail for the 2025 federal election begins.
After recently sworn-in Prime Minister Mark Carney — who took over from former Liberal leader Justin Trudeau earlier this month — called for the April 28 election on Sunday, Poilievre will face off against him, NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and Bloc Québécois head Yves-François Blanchet.
Kicking off his own campaign Sunday, Poilievre vowed to reverse nearly all of Trudeau’s policies, from the carbon pricing on industrial emitters to immigration and taxation. He also promised to shrink the public service.
"Mr. Carney’s carbon tax and [U.S. President] Donald Trump’s tariffs will destroy Canadian industry, pushing jobs south. But I won’t let that happen," Poilievre said.
Canada’s 45th federal election, which formally kicked off Sunday afternoon, will see a new prime minister elected and a new cabinet come to power – whatever the outcome.
