Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says President Trump has congratulated him on his party’s election victory and agreed to meet him in the near future. Carney said Trump agreed on the importance of Canada and the US working together as independent, sovereign nations. On Monday, Carney led the Liberal Party to victory in a campaign dominated by concerns over Trump’s trade war and threats to annex Canada. Before Trump’s tariffs and annexation threats, Canadians were worried about inflation and immigration. Do those concerns still exist, and how will Carney navigate them any better than his predecessor Justin Trudeau? We speak to Canadian columnist and author Andrew Coyne.
