From Global News.
Canada’s Industry Minister Mélanie Joly is expected to announce new supports for researchers and nationwide projects across Canada amid efforts to strengthen the country’s economy as it reels from U.S. President Donald Trump’s ongoing trade war.
Trump announced Tuesday he plans to impose a 50 per cent tariff on copper imported into the country and a 200 per cent tariff on pharmaceuticals.
Two-thirds of the U.S.’ refined copper imports come from China, which is the world’s leading copper producer, with lesser amounts coming from Canada, Mexico, and Peru.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has pledged to reduce federal barriers to internal trade and has introduced legislation to fast-track projects intended to boost the national economy.
