NATO leaders have approved a plan to increase defence spending to five per cent of gross domestic product over the next decade. Prime Minister Mark Carney said the new goal will cost Canada’s federal treasury $150 billion per year. Canada has not seen this kind of massive military spending increase since the Second World War or the Korean War, according to defence expert Dave Perry from the Canadian Global Affairs Institute.
