“Canadians expect us to take time,” LeBlanc says after US meeting ahead of Trump tariff deadline

From Global News.

As American President Donald Trump’s Aug. 1 tariff deadline approaches, Canadian trade negotiators are intensifying discussions with U.S. officials to secure a deal and avoid a looming 35 per cent tariff on Canadian goods.

Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc met with U.S. senators and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick in Washington, where talks were described as positive but yielded no concrete results.

LeBlanc emphasized the importance of taking the necessary time to achieve the best possible outcome for Canadian workers, stating, "we’re only going to be in a position to accept the deal when the prime minister decides that it’s the best we can get in the interests of Canadian economy."

Global’s Reggie Cecchini has the details.
