Roman Catholic cardinals held a final Mass this morning at St. Peter’s Basilica, at the Vatican.
“We are here to invoke the help of the Holy Spirit,” Cardinal Battista Re said in his homily. “So that the Pope elected maybe he whom the Church and humanity need at this difficult and complex turning point in history.”
The morning Mass was the final public act before the cardinals are locked inside the Sistine Chapel to begin their conclave, where they’ll cast their vote to select a new pope.
