Although Canada could not get a deal done by U.S. President Donald Trump’s Aug. 1 deadline, Jean Charest, a former Quebec premier and a member of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Council on Canada-U.S. Relations, says Carney is correct to take his time making a deal that would be of interest to Canada and its partners, including its allies in the U.S.
