Catholics gather in Vatican, Rome for prayer as Pope’s blood tests show early kidney failure

From Global News.

In the latest update from the Vatican regarding the health of Pope Francis – who has been in “critical condition” for a day – the pontiff’s blood tests are now showing early kidney failure.

Despite the alarming update and a necessity for high flows of supplemental oxygen, Rome’s Gemelli hospital says the Pope remains alert and “well-oriented.”

Pope Francis was hospitalized on Feb. 14 due to a “complex” respiratory infection, and has since shown the onset of bilateral pneumonia.

Catholics from near and far have gathered in both Rome and Vatican City offering prayers to the 88-year-old bishop.
