From DW Documentary.
Five years ago, on March 11, 2020, Covid-19 was officially declared a pandemic. The deadly disease spread so quickly around the world that it could not be stopped with known measures.
For many people, like César Serrano, it was as if time had stopped, “it’s as if a huge storm has come and wiped out everything. Everything is completely deserted, lifeless, closed.”
It felt like something out of a disaster movie. First came the fear of this unknown virus, followed by lockdowns. Once the first wave had passed, restrictions in some places were eased. Then came further waves and restrictions, but people got used to the changes in their daily life.
As the pandemic entered its second year, expressions of solidarity, seen at the start, gave way to frustration and anger. People took to the streets in anti-government protests and conspiracy theories spread. People also began to question the price they had paid for efforts made at protecting themselves and others against this virus.
What impact did the coronavirus pandemic have on our life?
