Danielle Smith calls on Canada to name “border czar” as tariffs loom

From Global News.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said Wednesday that Canada should name a “border czar” to work closely with the U.S. on border security, amid the looming threat of a sweeping 25 per cent tariff.

Smith said the Canadian border czar would work with American counterpart Tom Homan to crack down on illegal border crossings and fentanyl – which President Donald Trump has repeatedly named as his primary grievances.

"The one thing that we can do this week, in just the next couple of days, to have the best chance to avoid tariffs is to show clear and unequivocal action to secure the border," she said.

Smith suggested a retired military general would be the right person for the post.
