Danielle Smith suggests Canada secures new trade relationships, denouncing US tariffs

From Global News.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is denouncing tariffs from President Donald Trump and insisting Canada lessens its independence on the U.S., while establishing new trade relationships.

Speaking at a Canada Strong and Free Network conference in Ottawa on Thursday, Smith said Canada has, for too long, coasted on past accomplishments while counting on the goodwill of its allies.

The United Conservative Party (UCP) leader suggested Canada start exporting everything it can, including food, fuel and critical minerals. Further noting that opportunities in Prince Rupert, B.C. have been undersold by the federal government – a port she called “Canada’s gateway to Asia.”
