Deadly attack on resort in Kashmir’s Pahalgam sparks wave of protests across India

From Global News.

Protesters took to the streets in various cities of India’s Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, after a militant attack killed at least 26 people at a resort in the region’s Pahalgam city.

"It was a condemnable act of cowardice by the terrorists. The tourists were asked their names before being killed. It is a shameful act," said protester Ravinder Singh Thakur.

A witness recalled the sound of gunshots and said, "When I reached the firing site, I rescued three individuals."

Meanwhile, tourists scrambled to leave the town of Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir territory as the attack sparked safety fears. The incident was the worst attack on civilians in India since the 2008 Mumbai shootings and shattered the relative calm in Kashmir, where tourism has boomed as an anti-India insurgency has waned in recent years.
