From BRIGHT SIDE.
Christmas might seem all cozy and cheerful, but some eerie legends make the holiday downright spooky! In Iceland, there’s the Yule Cat, a giant feline that eats anyone who doesn’t get new clothes for Christmas—so better hope for socks this year. Then there’s Krampus, a creepy half-goat, half-demon figure from Central Europe who punishes naughty kids by stuffing them into his sack. In Scandinavia, the Nisse is a mischievous gnome-like creature that protects farms but can turn nasty if you forget to leave him a bowl of porridge. Wales has Mari Lwyd, a ghostly horse figure with a real horse skull, who goes door to door challenging people to rhyme battles (yes, it’s as weird as it sounds). So, while Christmas can be magical, these legends add a creepy twist to the holiday cheer!
