From Global News.
The Eiffel Tower was evacuated in Paris on Tuesday morning, after a fire alarm was set off by a short circuit in the elevator system between the second floor and the top of the tower, according to a statement from management.
"I saw on my phone there was a fire reported in the lift shaft and obviously they evacuated 1,000 people and we are waiting to see whether they will open it up again or not," said Dugald Gemmill, a visitor who stood in the long queue to enter the landmark.
No visitors were harmed and the tower will re-open progressively later today, but with access only till the second floor, the company said.
It added that an investigation into the cause of the short circuit is ongoing, while Parisian police declined to comment on the fire incident.
