EXCLUSIVE: Ksenia Karelina speaks out for the first time after being freed from Russian penal colony

From PBS NewsHour.

In her first interview since being freed from Russia, Ksenia Karelina, a former ballerina and dual Russian and American citizen, speaks to PBS News about her imprisonment. Karelina was convicted of treason and sentenced to 12 years in a Russian penal colony on charges stemming from a $51 donation to a charity that provides aid to Ukraine. In April, after spending 15 months in a Russian custody, she was released in a prisoner swap orchestrated by the Trump administration. Karelina describes to PBS News’ Amna Nawaz the harsh conditions she endured and how she managed to maintain her belief in "kindness and love as the biggest powers in this world" even in the "darkest times."
