Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell downplayed growth concerns and the impact of President Donald Trump’s trade war on inflation, Speaking to reporters following a two-day meeting of policymakers, Powell downplayed mounting growth concerns and the price hits that could be on the way from President Donald Trump’s aggressive trade war. He even revived a once-abandoned term to say the inflationary impact of tariffs is likely to be transitory. Fed officials held their benchmark interest rate steady on Wednesday for a second straight meeting, as expected by economists. President Donald Trump said the Federal Reserve should cut interest rates, splitting with the US central bank as officials weigh the economic cost of his tariff push.
