From Global News.
A Palestinian grandmother was in mourning on Wednesday, after she says ten of her family members were killed in an Israeli strike on a tent sheltering displaced people in Khan Younis.
Umm Mohammed Shaaban said children, in-laws and grandchildren of hers were among those killed in the Israeli strike that, according to Gaza’s health ministry, caused several casualties.
Israel has regularly said it takes steps to avoid hitting civilians. Israel says it is seeking to eliminate militants from Hamas, which attacked southern Israel from Gaza in 2023, and free hostages still held by the group.
The Gaza conflict began with a Hamas attack on southern Israel in October 2023 that resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people and the taking of 251 hostages, according to Israeli figures. Israel’s retaliatory war has killed over 57,000 Palestinians, as reported by Gaza’s health ministry, and reduced much of Gaza to rubble.
