Gabon: Vote counting under way after first presidential elections 2023 since military coup | DW News

From DW News.

Vote counting is under way in Gabon after the first presidential elections since President Ali Bongo was toppled by a military coup in 2023.

The poll is widely expected to keep in power interim president Brice Oligui Nguema, who lead the efforts to remove Bongo. The Interior Ministry says turnout was over 87 percent, with interim results expected later on Sunday. The election is seen as a key test of the military-led government’s promise to return power to civilians.
