The "worst-case scenario of famine" is "now unfolding" in Gaza, a UN-backed monitor warned, stressing that air-dropping food into the Palestinian territory was insufficient. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) said air drops "will not be enough to reverse the humanitarian catastrophe," insisting that only "immediate, unimpeded" humanitarian access into Gaza can halt rapidly rising "starvation and death." Speaking on the report, Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, says it "highlights that two out of the three famine thresholds have now been breached in parts of the territory."
