In tonight’s top story: There is a firestorm of reaction to the tariffs U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed on Canadian exports. Canadian industries are blasting America’s decision to punish its closest ally and trading partner. And economists on both sides of the border are warning the tariffs will only backfire. Mackenzie Gray reports.

Plus, in a Global News exclusive, Canada hears for the first time from a veteran who was detained by the Taliban. "Canadian Dave," as he’s become known, is considered a hero for helping to free more than a hundred Afghans during the fall of Kabul in 2021. It was upon return to Afghanistan last November – to help others escape – that he was captured. Here, Jeff Semple speaks with the now-free man.
