Ontario Premier Doug Ford confirmed Friday he is dropping the writ next Wednesday, sending voters to the polls by the end of the month. Ford says he’s seeking a stronger mandate to tackle U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat of 25 per cent tariffs on all Canadian goods. Colin D’Mello reports.

Trump renewed his threat to slap Canada with sweeping tariffs again Friday, while claiming the U.S. no longer needs to rely on Canadian exports. His repeated comments have reignited a movement to reduce our reliance on the U.S. by knocking down inter-provincial barriers. Touria Izri explains.

In Ottawa, the race is underway to determine the new Liberal leader and Canada’s next prime minister. Former deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland is making her case for why she should replace Justin Trudeau, as Mark Carney gains momentum in the race. And there is less than 50 days left in the campaign. Mackenzie Gray reports.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his forces will not be withdrawing from southern Lebanon on Sunday, putting the ceasefire with Hezbollah on shaky ground. Israel says Lebanon has not replaced Israeli troops stationed in the country’s south. Redmond Shannon reports.
