From Global News.
For the first time, from a London, Ont. courtroom, we’re hearing from the woman who alleges five former world junior hockey players sexually assaulted her. Alex Formenton, Cal Foote, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube and Carter Hart have each pleaded not guilty. The woman told the jury how she met some of them at a bar before going to a local hotel.
In Ottawa, Prime Minister Mark Carney laid out his minority government’s priorities in an all-encompassing news conference – Carney’s first since being elected Monday. The Liberal leader also announced a trip to Washington next week, along with a royal visit at the end of the month.
And General Motors says it is reducing shifts at the Oshawa assembly plant in Ontario “in light of forecasted demand and the evolving trade environment," resulting in 700 workers facing layoffs. The announcement was made on Friday amid a trade war with U.S. President Donald Trump that slapped a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian-built vehicles in March, affecting the auto industry.
Plus, the Trump administration is cracking down on a tariff loophole. It allowed goods worth $800 or less to enter the U.S. without facing a tariff or import tax. The idea was to cut bureaucracy for small, everyday shipments.
