Both Saskatchewan and Manitoba are currently under states of emergency due to severe wildfire threats. Hundreds of firefighters from various provinces, along with reinforcements from the United States, are en route to assist in Manitoba. Melissa Ridgen reports focusing on the escalating crisis surrounding the city of Flin Flon.
Thousands of residents in Alberta are closely monitoring the advancing wildfires that threaten rural communities. Authorities are urging those in remote northern areas to evacuate immediately and head south. Currently, there are 28 wildfires raging across the province, an increase of four since Thursday. Heather Yourex-West reports on the rapidly evolving situation and the ongoing firefighting efforts.
The biggest fire in Canada is burning in Saskatchewan. It’s happening near the community of Candle Lake, about two hours north of Saskatoon. The fire is over 300-thousand hectares in size. There are 14 other active fires in the province. While the impact of the smoke has been widespread, luckily, none of the fires is burning near any major population centre. But that could change depending on what happens with the weather. Gates Guarin reports.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is going to double the tariff rate on steel from 25 per cent to 50 per cent, a dramatic increase that could further increase prices for the metal used to make housing, autos and other goods.
Hamas says a proposed Gaza ceasefire deal "fails to meet any of the just and legitimate demands” of people in Gaza but that it is studying the text of the plan. The White House says Israel has agreed to the 60-day truce, which would see living and dead Israel hostages exchanged for more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners. Redmond Shannon reports.
