“Grateful”: South Korea acting president reinstated after impeachment

From Global News.

South Korea’s prime minister Han Duck-soo expressed gratitude to the constitutional court on Monday after it reinstated his powers as acting president following his impeachment more than two months ago.

“I am grateful for the wise decision made by the constitutional court,” he said, adding that a goal of his moving forward would be to heal divisions in the country.

Han took over as acting leader after President Yoon Suk Yeol was impeached over a short-lived declaration of martial law in December 2024.

However, he only lasted two weeks in the post before he was impeached and suspended on Dec. 27 after clashing with the opposition-led Parliament over the addition of three more constitutional judges.
