Groundhog Day 2025: Is spring in the air for Ontario’s Wiarton Willie?

Sunday marked Groundhog Day and Ontario’s Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow, indicating an early spring.

Wiarton Mayor Jay Kirkland put his ear to the box housing Willie and then announced the large rodent’s prediction of an early spring to the crowd.

“Willie didn’t see his shadow. We will have an early spring,” Mayor Kirkland said as the crowd cheered.
