“Haven’t slept in 4 days”: Residents in Spain’s Galicia fight to save homes from raging wildfire

From Global News.

Residents armed with garden hoses and buckets joined forces to save heir homes from an encroaching wildfire in the autonomous region of Galicia, Spain on Saturday.

Community members fought alongside firefighters to beat back the nearby grassfire.

“We have to go to the neighbours and help each other,” said Basilio Rodriguez, a resident in the village of Villardevos.

“The planes come from all sides, but they don’t come here.”

Wildfires in Spain have killed seven people and burned an area the size of London. The fires are among many burning across southern Europe, in what has been one of the worst summers for wildfires in the region in 20 years.
