They say a dog is man best friend and when Bruce Wahler needed him the most, his Jack Russell Terrier Zeus was his fiercest protector.

In the early hours of Jan. 22, an armed man broke into Wahler’s home, shooting him twice in the leg and once in the foot. Zeus was shot in the head, but despite his injuries the dog never left Wahler’s side, more concerned about his owner.

“The love, the comfort, the sacrifice he was willing to give for me.” Wahler told Global News.

The pair are now recovering, Zeus adapting to his life altering injuries.

As Meghan Cobb reports, with mounting vet bills the community came out to support the heroic canine.
