HMPV is surging in China: What it is and what you should know about it

Cases of human metapneumovirus (hMPV), a common respiratory infection, are surging in China and it’s making headlines in a post-COVID-19 world.

HMPV typically causes cold-like symptoms but can in rare cases lead to hospitalizations among the very young, elderly or immunocompromised.

But as Katherine Ward reports, doctors say there is no reason to panic, and simple health measures are the best defence.
