From PBS NewsHour.
The measles outbreak continues to grow with more than 220 cases and at least two deaths reported across the U.S. in 2025 so far.
While the highly contagious disease was declared eliminated from the U.S. in 2000, more people may be at risk now amid growing vaccine hesitancy.
Unvaccinated people account for a majority of the cases now, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Doctors and public health experts say the best protection against the virus is vaccination by either the MMR vaccine or the MMRV vaccine. The CDC says that most people vaccinated with either of those vaccines are "protected for life."
PBS News’ William Brangham has more on the measles vaccine and how to know if you’ve received it.
