Firefighters battled wildfires across Greece and the Western Balkans on Saturday as southern Europe sweltered under its third heat wave of the summer.

Residents in the village of Krioneri were told by authorities to flee towards Athens, as two houses caught fire.

At least five people were hospitalized due to the fires.

Temperatures in Greece were forecast to reach up to 44 C on Saturday, according to the Greek weather service.
