Hungary’s parliament has approved constitutional changes further clamping down on rights for LGBTQ people, strengthening the legal foundations for the prohibition of the Pride march. Since Victor Orban’s return to power in 2010, Hungary’s nationalist leader has widely restricted the rights of the LGBTQ community, the media, courts and academia.
Over the weekend, thousands of protesters turned the streets of Budapest into a sea of grey for what they called “Gray pride”, poking fun at Orban’s recent clampdown on LGBTQ rights and diversity.
