As the death toll surpasses 2,700 in Myanmar after a powerful 7.7 magnitude struck three countries last Friday, a man in Thailand’s city of Bangkok recounted his narrow escape from death.

Kwon Youngjun, a 36-year-old Korean national, found himself leaping across a bridge connecting two skyscraper buildings the moment it began splitting in half – a moment caught on Thai TV, and then running down 52 flights of stairs to escape.

"I thought, ‘I have to survive this and get to my wife and child.’ So I kept going down with everything I had,” Youngjun said.
