Impaired Ontario driver handed 8-year prison sentence for crash that killed rideshare passenger

A 25-year-old Mississauga man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for impaired and dangerous driving causing death in a 2021 crash that killed rideshare passenger Matthew Cruz. Ajamkot Sandhu was driving at twice the speed limit when he struck a Lyft vehicle at an intersection, killing Cruz and injuring two others.

Despite being found guilty on seven charges, Sandhu had been out on bail until his sentencing. With credit for time served, he has seven years and nine months left in prison and faces a 15-year driving ban. As Catherine McDonald reports.
