Inside an invigorating electro-health device – with schematic

From bigclivedotcom.

This unit is literally evolved from the many battery operated electric shock therapy machines that the Victorians used to treat many "ailments". And just like in the Victorian era, they are being used for providing people with a most invigorating and healthful experience.

These can be used with a wide variety of electrodes. From the classic stick on gel electrodes for "muscle toning" and TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) for pain relief, to the insertable electrodes for stimulation of your bits to ensure that you maintain them in good health, and avoid a build up of hysteria.

The circuitry is quite streamlined, and the driving of the LEDs hints at more luxurious models with more LEDs. The voltage step up is very simple, with a software and manual control element. The output is via an H-bridge driver to allow polarity reversal (sustained DC across skin can cause irritation and cell damage).

There seem to be a few different versions of these, and the output varies widely between them. I have a similar unit that is capable of spraining arm muscles when used with the hand held electrodes.

Although these devices pose a relatively low risk of electrical heart interference, I do encourage caution in avoiding current paths that flow through the torso.

The Japanese seem particularly fond of electro-health, which isn’t really a surprise.
