From Global News.
Speaking in the West Bank Thursday, Israel’s finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, confirmed work on the long-delayed Israeli settlement in Maale Adumim will continue after half a decade.
If constructed, the “Mevasseret Adumim” site would divide the West Bank and cut it off from East Jerusalem – a concept Smotrich says “buries the idea of a Palestinian state.”
“The time has come to fully apply Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, to forever remove from the table the idea of dividing the land, and to make sure that by September, Europe’s hypocrite leaders will simply have nothing to recognize,” the far-right politician told cheering reporters.
Though the development of the controversial settlement has been frozen on several occasions over the last 13 years for various political reasons, Smotrich claims the revival had the backing of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump.
