Edan Alexander, an Israeli-American hostage who was held by Hamas, crossed into Israel after his release as fighting paused temporarily in Gaza.

Israel’s military said it had received Alexander, 21, after the International Committee of the Red Cross facilitated his transfer following 19 months of captivity. An Israeli Air Force helicopter was to take him to a hospital where he will receive treatment and reunite with family members.
