Israeli PM defends plan to ‘take over’ Gaza City as European leaders call for rethink | BBC News

From BBC News.

The UK, France and other European countries have called on Israel to rethink it’s plan to "take over" Gaza City as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed it would be the "best way" to end the war.

The UN Security Council also held an emergency meeting in New York on Sunday with Miroslav Jenča, the assistant secretary general for Europe, Central Asia and Americas, saying the Gaza City plan is "another dangerous escalation of the conflict".

Israeli leaders have rejected criticism of its plan, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying "this will help free" the remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza.
