From Global News.
Reactions from residents in Israel, Gaza and the West Bank circulated Thursday, after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the nation could soon recognize Palestinian statehood.
“The deepening suffering of civilians leaves no room for delay in coordinated international action to support peace, security, and the dignity of all human life,” Carney said Wednesday. “For these reasons, Canada intends to recognize the State of Palestine at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in September 2025,” he added.
The move promoted divided reactions out of the Middle East, some believe the promise is overdue, while others believe it’s a political stunt.
Responding to Carney’s statement Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media, claiming that recognizing Palestinian statehood makes trade deals “very hard.”
The Republican leader’s comments come one day before 30 per cent tariffs are set to be implemented on Canadian goods.
