LA update: Curfew likely to be renewed amid isolated arrests, while Marines on standby | DW News

From DW News.

The second night of a curfew has resumed in parts of downtown Los Angeles, amid days of protests over the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration. LA mayor Karen Bass says the curfew is likely to remain in place for as long as needed. The lockdown runs from 8pm until 6am, and covers two and a half square kilometres of downtown L-A — a city which spans some 1,200 squared kilometres. Officials say the curfew is necessary for stopping vandalism and theft. Ahead of the curfew, police on horseback cleared crowds in front of the Los Angeles city hall. Protests have also been held in other cities including Chicago, New York and San Antonio.
