As the Liberal leadership race wraps up on Sunday, a new leader will be announced, intended to replace Justin Trudeau as prime minister of Canada.

Voters will choose between candidates Frank Baylis, Mark Carney, Chrystia Freeland and Karina Gould all vying for Canada’s top job and taking charge of the Trump tariff war.

Trudeau, who has been prime minister since 2015, announced in early January that he planned to resign amid poor polling numbers and internal party dissent.

Trudeau will remain prime minister until a new prime minister is sworn in. That will happen within a few days, as soon as the new leader has their affairs in order and is ready to assume the office.
